What Clients Are Saying

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between an interior designer and a licensed contractor, and do I need both?
Typically yes — a designer handles space planning and selections, a contractor handles permits and the build, and most homeowners end up coordinating both. Kaelyn Schmidt Design is both: Kaelyn holds a University of Florida interior design degree and a Florida Residential Contractor License (CRC1332971), so design and construction run through one firm, one license, with no handoff in between.
Yes. As a licensed Florida residential contractor (CRC1332971), permits, inspections, and code compliance are handled as part of every renovation — not something you have to manage yourself.
Most builds run 4–6 weeks once construction starts. Design, selections, and permitting happen before the crew arrives, so total timeline depends on scope — a refresh moves faster than a full layout change with custom cabinetry. You’ll get a specific timeline with your written estimate.
One firm, not two, handles your project from concept to completion. Design, material selections, permits, and construction all run through Kaelyn Schmidt Design, so the person who designed your space is also accountable for building it — no gap between a designer and a separate contractor.
Your home, your taste. The portfolio spans modern farmhouse, transitional, coastal, mid-century, traditional, and more — there’s no signature look applied to every project. The discovery phase exists specifically to identify your style before any design work starts.
Yes. You get a detailed written estimate covering every line item before anything starts, and nothing begins until you’ve signed off on the full scope and cost. That number is what you pay — no surprise charges at closeout.
